Over 53% of South Indians suffer sleep loss due to mosquito nuisance, with children losing up to 4 hours nightly—raising serious health concerns, reveals a nationwide Goodknight survey. Experts warn this could weaken immunity and increase the risk of infections.

Kochi : Mosquitoes are significantly disrupting sleep, with around 53% of people across South India reporting sleep disturbances due to mosquito nuisance, according to a recent survey. Adults are losing up to two hours of sleep per night, while children are losing as much as four hours. The study highlights that this sleep disruption can weaken immunity and increase susceptibility to various diseases.  Notably, 87% of respondents from the northern, eastern, and western regions of India shared similar concerns. Additionally, 86% of South Indian respondents believe that mosquito-related sleep disturbances, particularly in children, are contributing to health issues.  The findings come from a nationwide survey conducted by Goodknight in collaboration with market research firm YouGov, ahead of World Malaria Day. The study underscores the growing concern of mosquito-related sleep issues in Indian households.

It also warns of serious health consequences, including weakened immunity, elevated stress levels, and a higher risk of infections. Ashwin Murthy, chief marketing officer of Godrej Consumer Products, stated that through such initiatives, the company aims to raise awareness about the mosquito menace in India. He further pointed out that over 40 million people in India are affected by mosquito-borne diseases, which also have broader socio-economic implications.
